Guess The Airline - December 2005

Another easy advertisement this month, for the Holidays. One last time, have a look at this advertisement published on the Air Transport World issue of October 1980.

Guess The Airline - November 2005

I decided to give you visitors a break this month with a fairly easy advertisement. Of course, there's always the batch of wrong answers, but at least it's satisfying to see people recognize the clues behind an advertisement. One last time, have a look at this advertisement published on a Time Asia issue of the late 1990s.

Guess The Airline - October 2005

This was the first appearance for this airline, and the clues seemed somewhat obvious, especially the year of the foundation of the airline. Yet a lot of people submitted wrong answers and some were very perseverant. One last time, have a look at this advertisement from the Air Transport World issue of October 1980.

The Concorde… Airport ’79 (Movie review)

The Concorde… Airport '79 is the fourth and last film in the Airport series. It is the only Airport film that has a supersonic airliner, a series of armed air attacks, a decompression, a lot of screaming and panicking, all with a 1980s feel... and a lot of camp value!

Guess The Airline - September 2005

This was a different Guess The Airline, in the sense that it was not an actual airline advertisement, but rather an RBC Royal Bank Visa advertisement, promoting a credit card affiliated to a now defunct frequent flyer program in Canada. It was published on the airline's inflight magazine issue of July 1999.

Airport '77 (Movie review)

Most people I have spoken to agree to say that from all four Airport movies, Airport '77 is the best one, with most action and excitement. Find out more in this amazing story of a private Boeing 747 crashing in the Bermuda triangle. On board, many distinguished guests, a great art collection... and crooks after it, no matter what the cost.

Pandora’s Clock (Movie review)

Imagine if a deadly virus could be onboard a commercial flight right before Christmas. The passengers are to be quarantined. Nobody is to get off the plane, or the planet would be faced with an epidemic with proportions never seen before. This is the exciting story behind the 4-hour mini-series/movie Pandora's Clock, based on the technothriller of the same name by John J. Nance. It was shown on NBC for the first time on November 10-11, 1996.

Airplane! (Movie review)

Surely you have seen (and loved) the Airport movies from the 1970s. But this is, according to Wikipedia, the movie that ended in beauty this decade of air disaster movies by making fun of them: Airplane! It's a composite spoof of pretty much everything you remember from the 1970s... or think you know about it, including the 1971 made-for-TV movie Terror in The Sky (itself a remake of Zero Hour, written by Airport's Arthur Hailey.)

Free Fall (Movie review)

At long last, I have been able to see this movie, not because it's good, but because it is quite mediocre. Even a news service, giving descriptions and ratings to movies in my province, gave this movie a 6 (1 being a masterpiece and 7 being an extremely poor movie.) At first, it looks like your average promising little made-for-TV flick. But as the ridiculous story unfolds, you find out you were in for two hours of wondering: "is this a real movie?"

Guess The Airline - August 2005

This was a different Guess The Airline, in the sense that it was not an actual airline advertisement, but rather a Bank of American advertisement, promoting a credit card affiliated to a major frequent flyer program. It was published on the airline's inflight magazine issue of March 2000.

The Taking of Flight 847: The Uli Derickson Story (Movie review)

"Ladies and gentlemen, the plane is being hijacked. The Captain has agreed to cooperate with the hijackers and take them wherever they wish to go. So please, for the sake of everyone's safety, just do exactly as you are told." How did this happen, and so quickly? How did the lead flight attendant cope with the threat of two terrorists with automatic weapons and hand grenades? And most importantly, how did she manage to keep all but one of her passengers alive?

Guess The Airline - July 2005

This is probably the Guess The Airline game where people have responded most positively. It was made easy, and people obviously noticed. This month, we had an ad published in National Geographic magazine in the early 1970s.

Guess The Airline - June 2005

I am pleasantly surprised that people responded so positively to this relatively easy game. This month, we had an ad published in National Geographic magazine in the mid-1960s.

Guess The Airline - May 2005

I can see that the people who recognized the airline in this ad were very enthusiastic, as a lot of memories all came back. The others... were just mixed up by the "sunny" references in the advertisement. This month, we had an ad published in the late 1970s.

Guess The Airline - April 2005

This time, I am amazed by how many people got it right, with the few clues that were out there. You did an excellent job at pinpoiting the airline behind this mysterious and downright suggestive advertisement. Once again: this is an ad published in magazines in the United States in the 1960s.

Guess The Airline - March 2005

I am surpirsed by the number of wrong and sometimes bizarre answers I got this time. The clues were there, people! Once again: this is an ad published in the National Geographic, in the early 1990s. The airline went out of business a few months following this ad. It was submitted by "Quink", an airodyssey.net visitor like you.

Guess The Airline - February 2005

People have done extremely well in this game and the participation rate was very high! I'm very glad. This month, we had an ad published in a magazine called Washington Flyer, where this author picked up a copy at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport last January.

Guess The Airline - January 2005

I'm glad people gave sensible answers when submitting their guess for this moderately difficult game. After all, this was not a major player in the Asian aviation scene. We remind you this is an ad published in this airline's inflight magazine and submitted by a long-time airodyssey.net visitor like you. As a clue, we also said that the airline is in Asia, but not in a country recently affected by the tsunami on December 26, 2004.

Airport 1975 (Movie review)

After the movie Airport was thought to be the only one comes a sequel that marks the beginning of the air disaster movie saga. Based on a totally fictional story comes, in 1974, what is meant to become yet another classic: Airport 1975.
