Christmas

1989
Peru
Frame 1 Frame 2 Frame 3

Very patriotic, moderately religious, blissfully cheesy... That's how this deliciously Peruvian commercial is. You have to love the crew singing (or lip-synching) in front of the Boeing 727, mixed with images of people celebrating everywhere. The English subtitles were added by yours truly, who didn't have a chance to see this ad on Peruvian television because at the time, he was spending his first Canadian Christmas.

Count on us

1994
Peru
Frame 1 Frame 2 Frame 3

This patriotic commercial was released a short time after AeroMexico bought a majority part of AeroPeru. The airline adopted a color scheme and uniforms inspired by AeroMexico. Even the DC-10 on this commercial was from AeroMexico! According to the song (inspired by musica criolla), reliability goes two ways: a country counting on its people, and its people counting on their airline. The English subtitles were added by yours truly.

Song

1998
Peru
Frame 1 Frame 2 Frame 3

In 1998, AeroPeru changed its tagline to "Alas Latinoamericanas" ("Latin American wings") and released this ad, showcasing once again a unique Peruvian and, by extension, Latin American pride. The result is emotional and full of hope. Alas, the airline went out of business a year later and this turned out to be their very last commercial. Domestic versions of the commercial began with this scrolling message:
"Uniting all Peruvians and Latin Americans by flying all around Peru and all around the continent. A commitment that we live up to, as we remember this song dedicated to Latin America."
The English subtitles were added by yours truly (thanks to P. Rueda for his help). If you can recognize the singer in this commercial, please send me an e-mail.
