About Solo and me

Chances are that if you stumbled upon this website, you already know who I am, or you might even be a friend! But, just in case... I might as well introduce myself and explain why I made this website. At the time of Eurotrip 2006, I am 24 years old and I live in Montreal. I work as a call centre agent for a major bank. If you tried going one directory up, you may have noticed that I am a proud and open... Wikipedian. And if you go another directory up, you will find airodyssey.net, my aviation website. As you will notice throughout the picture trip, it's one of my passions. Maybe someday, I'll be a flight attendant.

Another passion is travelling. My first trip, and I mean REAL trip was in August 2000, when I took the money earned from my first summer job to visit my newest penpal, Laura, in Germany. We spent a week-end in Paris and another one in Berlin. Then, to finish my undergraduate degree, I went back to Berlin to study German history. It was immediately followed by a two-week journey to Lyon via several other cities. All by myself. The thrill of backpacking (in an organized way!) was amazing and I had never felt so free in my life. My intent was to find that feeling again with Eurotrip 2006, a journey carefully planned since fall 2005, with enough room for unexpected things... like weather! I'll be honest with you: the thrill of that first backpacking trip all by myself was not there, but I nevertheless found another feeling: the one of being home... even though I am far away from home!

Find out more about me through one of those quizzes my friend Jordan forwarded to me once. And please, if you like this website, or if you're simply in the mood to talk, drop me a line!

Solo Name: Solo (also known as "Ham Solo", "Mr. Pig" or "Cutie")

Throughout your little photo trip, you will see this lovely little Beanie Baby proudly pose in front of monuments around Central Europe. It was given to me by my sister Zory the day I left for Eurotrip 2003. It stayed on my night table the whole two months of my stay in Berlin, but I decided to take it with me for the two-week journey! Since then, it has been my trusty travel mate... even when I am travelling alone. The name came up naturally, from the fact that he is constantly on his own, in my backpack, coming out only for about 10 seconds at a time, just enough time for me to take a snapshot before people start giving me a weird look. Yes, this is in part inspired by the movie "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain" ("Amélie From Montmartre" in English) and its garden dwarf.
