How to guess it?
Those participants who could read Japanese immediately recognized the kanji characters on the happi coat as this airline's name. If you were not sure, you could always go to the WikipediaExternal link article for this company and recognize them. Due to the type of service onboard, with kimono-dressed flight attendants, it was not a U.S. airline, but a Japanese one. In the 1970s, there was only one Japanese airline that flew to the United States on a regular basis. ANA would follow only later in the 1980s. And there it was. Japan Airlines (JAL).
